Jhancarlos Lara is SAL Pitcher of the Week After Greensboro Gem
The South Atlantic League announced their weekly award winners, honoring 21-year-old Jhancarlos Lara’s dozen strikeouts and six hitless innings against Greensboro on Wednesday. The Rome Emperors pitcher notched his first win of 2024 and tied a career high in strikeouts (12), something he’s done twice now in his three-year career. In his last five starts, the Braves no.12 prospect owns the 5h best ERA (2.00), third best WHIP (0.93), and 12th best K/BB ratio (3.60) in the South Atlantic League.

Minor League Baseball named Gwinnett Stripers infielder/outfielder Alejo Lopez the International League Player of the Week for Aug. 12-18. The 28-year-old hit .542 (13-for-24) with three doubles, two triples, seven runs, 12 RBIs, and a league-best 1.433 OPS in six games. He ranked among IL leaders in hits (1st), triples (1st), total bases (T-1st, 20), batting (2nd), extra-base hits (2nd, 5), RBI (2nd, 4), doubles (T-2nd), slugging percentage (T-2nd, .833), on-base percentage (T-3rd, .600), and runs (T-3rd).

The Gwinnett Stripers, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, have announced their schedule of home game dates for the 2025 season. Gwinnett’s home opener at Coolray Field is Tuesday, April 1 vs. the Nashville Sounds (Brewers). The Stripers will host holiday games for Easter Sunday (April 20 vs. the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies)), Father’s Day (June 15 vs. the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals), Independence Day (July 4 vs. the St. Paul Saints (Twins), and Labor Day Sept.1 vs. the Durham Bulls (Rays).

The Mississippi Braves and Farm Bureau proudly announce that RHP Darius Vines and OF Ethan Workinger have been named Farm Bureau Pitcher and Player of the Week for August 13-18. Vines, 26, bookended last week's 5-1 series victory in Biloxi by winning starts on Tuesday and Sunday, allowing one run on seven hits in 11.0 innings, four walks, and 17 strikeouts, going 2-0. Vines matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts in 5.0 scoreless innings in the 1-0 shutout win on Tuesday, August 13.

Minor League Baseball announced the realignment of the High-A South Atlantic League and the Single-A Carolina League for the 2025 season. The Hub City Spartanburgers (Spartanburg, South Carolina) will replace the Hickory Crawdads in the High-A South Atlantic League, with Hickory moving to the Single-A Carolina League in place of the Down East Wood Ducks, who will move to Spartanburg following the 2024 season. The Rome Emperors move from the SAL North to the South Division.
